“The only way to make your dreams come true is to wake up and work for them.” – Mikhail Baryshnikov
From the moment I made the biggest decision of my life, to follow my dreams of studying ballet at a prestigious school in another country, I knew every detail of my journey would count.
Embarking on a new life, at the school of my dreams: the English National Ballet School in London, has been an experience full of highs and lows, mixed emotions and challenges. From day one, I have felt like I was in a completely different world, where every moment, be it small or large has contributed to a profound personal transformation, but through it all I have I felt HOME.
Studying abroad takes courage, and a lot of it. It’s about leaving your comfort zone, adapting to a new culture, and facing the uncertainties of change. Ive had moments where I have felt overwhelmed or intimidated, but every step has helped me grow and develop as a person and dancer.
It all started when I received a short-term scholarship at the YAGP to train at ENBS. I convinced my parents this was the start of my dream and in February 2024 I found myself at ENBS, not knowing this was to become my permanent home!
I will never forget how excited I was on the first day of the short-term, but also how excited and enchanted I was by this city and this school. There was an instant connection, which made me feel like I had been here before, even though it was my first time. I look back and realise how grateful I am for the most beautiful week of my life, everything was perfect: the incredible teachers I had the opportunity to learn from, the dancers I had the opportunity to work, the friendships I made and the wonderful and warm staff. These people and this place felt like family, a new home, I felt safe, protected and I knew it couldn’t end here.
On the last day of my short-term at ENBS I was very emotional. I didn’t tell anyone, but after I finished all the classes and realised it was the moment I would say goodbye, a tear ran down my cheek and I realised I am attached to this country, to this school. I really wanted to stay here for at least one more day, to enjoy these unforgettable moments a little longer.
Before leaving I turned to Ms. Simpson, with whom I had the wonderful opportunity to work since then. I told her how much I enjoyed it and after that she talked with me and she said to me: See you in September, right?
I can’t express in words how happy I was at that moment and how grateful I am for the trust she gave me.
So, I decided not to say goodbye, but rather, see you soon!
Shortly after arriving home, I received the email with my acceptance to ENBS, the best day of my life!
Fast forward and it’s September, my first day of school, and it’s exactly as I wanted, in London, at ENBS.
I was greeted by welcoming colleagues who made me feel at home. The warm and friendly atmosphere of the ballet school deeply impressed me.
At first, it was intimidating to integrate into a new group, but I quickly discovered we are all in the same boat. Each of us brings a different story, and the cultural diversity of my colleagues enriches the learning experience. We’ve made beautiful friendships and learned to support each other in the face of challenges.
One of the first things I realised was adapting to a new environment comes with its own challenges. Whether it’s the different habits, the learning style, or getting used to the fast pace of life in London, every day brings new tests. Learning a new language was undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges. Although I had basic knowledge, communicating fluently with my classmates and teachers requires a lot of practice and patience.
I started to discover my passions and set clear goals for the future. Every lesson, every interaction, and every challenge help me become a better professional.
The school’s qualified staff is truly remarkable. The teachers not only share their vast knowledge with us but also inspire us to push our limits. Each lesson is a journey itself, full of challenges and discoveries. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to learn from the best.
Then there’s my new home, London, with its vibrant streets and diverse culture, it has quickly become a second home for me. Every corner of the city offers me inspiration, and its energy motivates me to continue fighting for my dreams. Here, I have discovered not only a community of dancers, but also a family that supports me every step of my journey.
All of this has been possible because of my scholarship, it not only provides financial support, but it’s also recognition for my hard work and dedication.
Every day I study abroad makes me feel honoured. Honoured I had the courage to take this step, honoured I was chosen, and honoured to be able to learn from such a valuable experience. I am sincerely grateful for everything!
My Advice: Don’t Miss Out on Opportunities for the Future!
My message to those considering studying at ENBS is to not miss out on opportunities that come your way. Whether it’s a scholarship or short-term programme, every experience will help you build your future. Don’t let fear or uncertainty stop you.
In conclusion, the courage to study in another country is a choice worth every effort!
With each passing day, I feel more ready to embrace my dreams and turn every obstacle into stepping stones to success. This experience will define me and help me grow, both personally and professionally.
With my suitcase full of dreams, I am ready to follow my passion and turn every dream into reality.
So, let’s enjoy every moment and dance with an open heart!
