Student Support

Student Support

We are aware that many of our students, joining ENBS will be living away from home or abraod for the first time and will need to engage with a new environment. We offer a range of help with financial issues, accommodation and practical considerations.

We pride ourselves on staff members who are open, approachable and expert. You will be allocated male and female tutors who are always available, and you will be encouraged to discuss your progress outside standard assessments.

Health Services

ENBS offers students a range of healthcare specialists in various disciplines who are experienced in working with professional dancers and sport related professionals. These specialists work closely with members of the Student Support Team to make sure we provide the best advice and services to our students. The Student & Enrolment Coordinator manages  the Student Support system and monitors the progress of the students. ENBS works together with the following specialists:

  • Physiotherapists: you have access on a daily basis to a physiotherapist who examines, diagnoses and if necessary provides treatment
  • Nutritionist: all year groups  will have group sessions with a nutritionist to learn and talk about the role that healthy nutrition plays in improving health and performance. In addition, you can book 1-to-1 appointments with the nutritionist
  • Performance psychologist: on a regular basis, you have the opportunity to see a performance psychologist who can help you with coping strategies, goal-setting and any personal issue you may have.
  • GP: you will be required to register with a local GP when you enter training at ENBS. For emergency matters, ENBS consults the school's medical advisor.

Injury Prevention And Recovery

The School places much importance on educating students in an understanding of the body and movement and how to work with their bodies in order to prevent injuries. The Student Support team has designed an Injury Prevention Programme to help students work with their body and recognize any areas that might need extra attention. Students with an injury will enter a Recovery from Injury Programme in which the student will work with members of the Student Support team. This means that you may have a diagnosis and treatment session with a physiotherapist, who will then refer you to the Body Conditioning tutor or Floor Barre specialist to ensure you recover as quickly as possible, and prevent recurrences of injuries too.

Accommodation

It is important that students feel comfortable and secure in their living accommodation. We take great care to ensure you are directed toward suitable lodgings and most new students live at hostels recommended by the school. 1st year students are encouraged to live in a hostel before taking the responsibility of living in a flat on their own or with others.

International Students

ENBS has students from no fewer than eighteen different countries around the world. Transition for international students can have additional implications, such as cultural differences and a language barrier. ENBS provides welfare support and an international students programme which is designed to help students settle into their new surroundings, adjust to life at school and living in London. In addition, we offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) support for those that need it. ENBS requires overseas students to have a basic knowledge of English. We suggest a basic level of B "Independent Speaker" on the Common European Framework for Languages.

Pastoral Care

We are aware that being a student can be stressful at times. Transition affects different people in various ways and we endeavour to make the transition as smooth as possible and to make life as a student at ENBS a positive experience by providing a network of support. Everyone has a personal tutor for regular meetings. Tutors monitor progress and provide advice and support at every stage of the course.

Concerns are dealt with in confidence. The Student & Enrolment Coodinator is available to students to discuss any issue they might have. If necessary, he will refer the student to a (health care) specialist.

Facilities

Facilities

ENBS is situated in the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in south-west London, very close to the famous and fashionable King's Road. The immediate area is residential with good shopping and restaurants near by and whilst a busy location, it does not have the stresses and congestion of London's West End.

There is easy access to some of the most famous landmarks and institutions, like the Royal Albert Hall, Royal College of Music and Harrods.

London offers a wealth of opportunities to enhance your cultural and artistic development outside the School curriculum. The capital city offers the most exciting and vibrant arts community with thriving world-class ballet, theatre, opera, art galleries and museums.

We organise cultural visits to galleries, museums and performances as part of the academic curriculum, and you are also strongly encouraged to visit these venues independently. Such opportunities and experiences serve to augment your future careers in the theatre and the arts.

We are well served by London Underground transport and bus services and are within easy distance of the living accommodation provided by near by recommended hostels.

We occupy a large first floor area in a traditional Victorian red brick building in a quiet street in Chelsea. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, whilst still maintaining the air of a place of study and learning. The corridors are filled with the sound of music from the dance studios and there is a real buzz as students move around getting on with their daily activities.

As well as the sprung floor dance studios, there is a body conditioning studio and a weight training room. There is also a dedicated room for physiotherapy. There is a well-stocked library and a study room, with computers providing internet access. Students have their own space to relax in the student lounge.

At present, we regret that the School premises are not easily accessible as they can only be reached by stairs.

Additional Needs

The School strives to be as inclusive as possible and welcomes applications from students with different abilities and additional needs, offering extra personal and learning support where possible.

If you would like to discuss your needs before auditioning, you are welcome to contact the Head of Studies.

Student Funding

Talent drives us in our selection process, not the ability to pay and on that basis 100% of our graduates go on to employment and we have been awarded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted for the past ten years. We believe that every one of our talented students should have the opportunity to undertake professional training whatever their economic background.

The School makes every effort to assist students in their search for additional funding.
