Stephen D Beagley BALLET TEACHER

Stephen began his ballet training at the age of 8 and joined the Royal Ballet School at the age of 9, being the youngest students accepted to the school.

During his training there, he was invited for one month to the Paris Opera School in the first student exchange between the schools. After 6 years of training he graduated to the upper school, Talgarth Road, and after only 6 weeks was promoted to graduate 3rd year class. During his 2 years at the Upper school he performed with The Royal Ballet Company and danced the role of he young man in his graduating performance of “The Two Pigeons”. After this performance, Stephen was offered a place in The Royal Ballet Company at the age of 17.

During his career at the Royal Ballet, Stephen danced the leading roles in Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet, Manon, Cinderella, La Bayadere, and had roles created for him by Sir Fredrick Ashton, Sir Kenneth Macmillan, David Bintley, Glen Tetley, John Neuimuer, Wayne Eagling and Ashley Page.

During his time at The Royal Ballet Company, he was asked to play the role of Anton Dolin for the BBC Omnibus program and was also nominated and was also nominated for an Olivier Award and a society of West End Theatre Awards for Outstanding Performance for a Dancer.

In1984 he was asked by Cameron Mackintosh to take over the lead role of Mistofilees & Quaxo in the West End Production of Cats and then took a 2 year leave of absence to star as Rocky in the Rocky Horror Show, The Hot Shoe Show for BBC1, with Wayne Sleep, leading dancer in the movie Nutcracker with Joan Collins and the same role for the first movie for cinema by the BBC called Dancing in the Dark.

In1985, Stephen played the Principal part of Tom Thumb in Barnum with Michael Crawford in the West End and principal dancer in the video for Wayne Sleeps show Dash.

In 1986, Stephen joined Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet as a principal touring Europe and the USA and after one year re-joined The Royal Ballet Company to tour Europe and Australia.

1988 Stephen was offered the role of Puff in the Ken Campbell play School for Clowns at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre and also begun teaching open classes at the Pineapple studios, Covent Garden. In1989 he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for one year in the record breaking production of Clockwork Orange at the Barbican and also for the West End run. He also performed in many pop videos for Arlene Philips, Antony van Laast, Bruno Tonioni, Queen, Frankie goes to Hollywood, The Cure, Susie and the Banshees, Olivia Newton-John, Duran Duran and commercials for Visa Card, Harp Lager, Halifax Building Society, Harley Davidson, Tennants Lager and assisted and danced in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Stephen started Guest teaching at The Royal Ballet School in 1990 and also at English National Ballet Company, Rambert Dance Company, Boston Ballet School, Scottish Ballet Company, Hong Kong Ballet Company and schools throughout the Far East. In 1994 Stephen designed and had built a ballet studio in Hakodate, Hokkaido in Japan teaching students from the age of 3 and upwards. The studio continues to this day.

Stephen is now our men’s Ballet Teacher.
