Following the success of A day in the life of English National Ballet School, in May, we live streamed our annual Choreographic Competition. This annual competition, which has grown in profile and endeavour in recent years, gives our students the opportunity to showcase their emerging choreographic talents. 16 finalists were selected from the preliminary round and went on to perform in front of a prestigious panel of judges lead by the highly respected Arlene Phillips, CBE and including Mark Baldwin and Kerry Nicholls. The event was hosted by Faye Barker, ITV News Presenter & Reporter.
Once again we worked with ENBS graduate and former ENB dancer Andre Portasio, Executive Producer of ArtStreaming TV. As well as being able to watch all of the action, audiences had the opportunity to further interact with the competition by casting their own People’s Choice vote via text.
The results were as follows:
1st place Joshua Legge (3rd Year) Babel
2nd place Luke Watson (1st Year) Whispering Slaves
3rd place Conal Francis-Martin (3rd Year) Cursus
People's Choice Award Maria Sousa (2nd Year) Ups!
Arlene Philips said of the evening "I was so impressed by the mature approach to choreography from the young students at English National Ballet School. Creatively there was drama, sweetness and tenderness weaving wonderful stories in a very short amount of time and all so brilliantly performed by the students of the School".
We are delighted to say that over 1,600 people watched the live stream from 28 different countries. The competiton is now available on demand.
